After viewing pictures of suns on google, students learned scissors safety and we talked about how to hold scissors and turn paper while cutting out a shape. We previously saw how paper is made, and practiced tearing paper correctly to get long strips (reciprocal tearing). We used this same idea to make the rays of the paper sun. This is our first year implementing our Young Fives art program. This is the only grade level that comes to art every week for a half hour, so students are seen more often, but for half the time as the rest of the grade levels.
As of this posting, students have been introduced to classroom procedures, including safety with using some of the art room tools and materials. Students have also worked on two projects and learned how we use centers in art for continued learning when projects are completed early (or one day when half of class was out sick!). There will be much more, along with some pictures, to come soon. |
